FOUR THINGS TO DO WHEN MOVING INTO A NEW HOME

CHANGE THE LOCKS

You never know who may have a copy of the key to your new home. Family and friends of the previous owner may still have in possession a key borrowed to them. Arrange a locksmith to update the locks as soon as possible. Then sleep easy.

CLEAN THE HOUSE

A new house… well isn’t technically new, so prepare to do a head to toe sweep and wipe down of the home. This will prepare you for a smoother transition once the furniture begins making its way in.

UPDATE ADDRESS AND FORWARD MAIL

Forward mail from your previous address to your new address to avoid missing any important bills and letters with sensitive information. Next, update your new address so that you can continue to receive your mail.  Start with the most important mail, such as banks and credit card companies, insurance providers, memberships, before moving on to magazines and subscriptions.

CALL UTILITY COMPANIES

Contact your cable, phone, electric, and gas companies to transfer the utilities over to your new home. The last thing you want is to move into your new home in the dark, cold, or sweltering heat.
